New Year, New Reflections
What I have learnt so far
As 2021 draws to a close and 2022 has begun, like most people at this time of year, I am choosing to reflect in order to set my goals and aspirations for the year ahead. Looking back at what I have learnt so far as a member of the Catalyst Team 8 cohort, I have continued to develop my pre-existing skillset in addition to developing an array of new skills, including but not limited to PR and the wireframing of websites. I have continued to be challenged, testing my skills and being encouraged to develop new ones, but in a way that is fun and enjoyable. I have learnt that time management is key and having the ability to switch your mindset to different clients is crucial to success within the role. Most importantly, I have learnt that I have a lot more skills than I thought I did going into the role.
The Catalyst programme has made me appreciate the importance of having a good team around you. When you are surrounded by a welcoming and supportive team it encourages you to bring your best self to work each day to contribute your part. Everyone on the team has the same role, even though we all work with very different clients, which has created a unique support system as we all understand what the others are going through and the challenges that may arise; this understanding helps us to share our own experiences to overcome any challenge we individually may face. This support has definitely increased as we have transitioned into working from home, with it being the first time for most of the Catalyst team. Checking in on each other to make sure everyone is alright and not struggling, whether with work or personal issues outside of work, is needed more than ever as we are all missing our office chats and banter over lunch. What I value most from the Catalyst team is that every win is celebrated, it doesn’t matter how big or small we will be sure to celebrate it. – And this happens often with a talented team like Team 8!
Working with Catalyst you get to experience working with a variety of clients in different industries, each one requiring different business needs and skill sets, this keeps the role exciting and entertaining as you don’t know what your next project could be. Having this variety has provided the opportunity to understand what my individual strengths are and what industries I like the most. Above all else, our clients are extremely welcoming and appreciative of the work you provide, with many of my clients really taking me on as part of their team and valuing the work I do for their business. I was fortunate enough, before the spike in Omicron, to attend the Sussex Business Awards 2021 with Rose Media Group. It was a fantastic opportunity to support my client, the Rose Media Group team, as they were shortlisted for the Creative Industries award. Attending the awards with Rose Media Group gave me a unique insight to a different side of business I had not experienced, seeing first had the importance and value of networking with other Sussex businesses.
Catalyst Goals for 2022
As I look forward to 2022 and my time at Catalyst, I want to continue to explore new business support areas, working with different clients in different industries getting as much exposure and insight as possible. Moreover, I want to continue to support the team, especially as we continue to work in a hybrid fashion; in addition to working with them on exciting projects I want to continue to create more fun memories outside of work too. It goes without saying, but I want to really make the most out of being surrounded by innovators, not just the startups and businesses we work with but also the senior leadership team too from whom I have already gained so much.
