8 Business Terms the Senior Support Team Love to use
Every office uses its fair share of acronyms and for a newly employed grad, it can take a while to get your head around them. Sussex Innovation’s Support Office is no different; with the rich variety of clients and projects SINC provides support on, my first couple of weeks in the Catalyst Team were spent trying to navigate a brand-new dictionary of terms!
Search Engine Optimisation is a crucial process where one increases the quantity and quality of organic website traffic by improving the site’s ‘visibility’ to search engines. Search Engine Optimisation targets different google searches and optimises websites by editing relevant content, adding keywords or phrases, connecting social media accounts and allowing search engines to create a site index.
A Call to Action is a well-known marketing device used in advertising and selling. The term refers to anything that is designed to prompt an immediate response from customers.
Software as a Service. This is one of the three main types of cloud computing for products available via a third-party over the internet, example Google Apps, Mail Chimp, Slack, Dropbox and Netflix.
This is a big one! CRM is short for Customer Relationship Management and it simply does-what-it-says-on-the-tin. It’s a system to manage interactions with current and potential clients.
Pay-per-click, also known as Cost-per-click. Companies use this type of internet advertising model to drive traffic to websites; the advertiser pays the publisher when the ad is clicked.
I think this is the office favourite! You’ll often hear the term ‘pain point’ used in support meetings between advisors and businesses. Pain points refer to problems that the business’ prospective clients/target audience experience. Businesses then attempt to mould their offering around these through their product or service - making them the solution!
B2B / B2C
There are two main types of customers: businesses and consumers. The product that a particular business is selling will typically be sold to one of these types, but not both, hence B2B (business to business) companies and B2C (business to consumer) companies.
Short for Lead Generation. This is an initial piece of market research companies carry out to source and identify potential customers.
