Leading up to my first day, I felt a nervousness growing in the pit of my stomach. There’s something about the beginning of a new job, not knowing where to go, what to do, or who everyone is, that really worried me. After being a competent member of the team in my previous, part-time jobs, I dreaded starting from scratch again, this time with a ‘real job’. The night before, my nerves subsided and were replaced by excitement. True to form, I was worrying over nothing.
My first day was up at the Croydon office, this presented new challenges like coming out of the wrong exit of the train station and getting lost, or having to ring the doorbell to get back into the office throughout the day since I didn’t have a pass yet. These things aside, I enjoyed my day. I met my first company, set up my laptop, said hello to all the new faces, and tried to remember everybody’s name.
My second day was at the Falmer office where I had yet more names to learn, things to set up and systems to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed this day as I was getting stuck into the work straight away and was surrounded by friendly, helpful people. Day three was back in Croydon, and four in Falmer. Getting used to the 9-5.30, 5 days a week life was made that bit more difficult with the double, 4 hour round trip commutes. It’s safe to say, I am tired!
SInC Falmer Office - home for the next 12 months
Overall I had a great week and am very happy with how I am fitting into the role and the team. Meeting new companies and learning new skills is exciting and rewarding. I am the third person to start from this year’s catalyst team, and I look forward to meeting the new members (and no longer being the newbie!). I also can’t wait to begin building my relationships with the clients and gaining more experience each day. It’s going to be a good year.
