Kirin Bhadesha

BA History

Kirin has recently graduated in History from the University of Sussex. Having moved from busy London to pursue her interest in History, she found herself shopping more and more in the array of small businesses in the renowned Brighton Laines and around Hove. This was a very welcome change from large corporate chains dominating the highstreets and is part of the reason she chose to apply to Catalyst.

Kirin got her first taste of University life when visiting Sussex on a 3-day residential trip in the first year of her GCSE’s. She then went on to work for the same team who organised the trip as a Widening Participation Ambassador from the first month of joining the university until the very end. Kirin is grateful to have been a part of the inclusive Widening Participation programme which aims to provide young people with insight into making choices around Higher Education. She has gained invaluable experiences such as: creating and running her own History workshop, being the teams’ representative at outreach events, supporting campus visit events and even presenting to audiences as large as 250 young people! Kirin also worked as a Pharmacy Advisor in Hove which enhanced her interpersonal and organisational skills whilst aiding her professional development.

Alongside her part-time work and studying, Kirin spent 2 years on the University of Sussex’s Zumba committee where she could combine her love for Zumba and gain valuable planning skills. Whilst setting up bi-weekly Zumba sessions during term time, Kirin also helped organise several successful fundraisers on behalf of the society for charities such as the Brighton Women’s Centre and Mind.

Kirin loves to travel and explore historical sites around the world and nationally. Although on a day to day basis, (when it’s not raining) you may find Kirin walking on the beach with a book in hand and one of her baked goodies, or trying to get her weekly Zumba session in.

Kirin’s varied work experience and analytical skills have provided her with a strong and efficient set of skills which she is ready to enhance during her time as a Catalyst Team Member. She is excited to make a positive impact and work with local businesses in Brighton and Croydon whilst finding out exactly how businesses operate.
